On September 9, 2024, at 13 Staromiejska Street in Katowice, a place emerged that from day one began to pulse with music, emotions, and Silesian character. KATO Blues FACES is not just a space — it is a phenomenon that, in a short time, has become part of the city’s fabric and one of the loudest points on its cultural map.

The project was created by Joanna and Michał Rutkowski, founders and owners of COMTV.pl. They focused on authenticity, emotion, and genuine human connection — and that is exactly what has attracted both music lovers and those searching for a place with soul, where you can truly feel that Katowice is alive with music.

At the heart of KATO Blues FACES is a unique, multi-layered multimedia exhibition that guides visitors through the remarkable history of Silesian blues. It is a space where the past comes alive through images, sounds, and emotions, and where music becomes a story about people, places, and the culture of the region.

The exhibition features original concert posters, photos from clubs and festivals, vinyl records, archival films, recordings from concerts and rehearsals, interview excerpts, as well as materials from private collections of musicians and enthusiasts. Each of these elements creates a vivid, authentic mosaic that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of those years — from smoky clubs and iconic stages to spontaneous jam sessions that built the legend of the Silesian sound.

An important part of the exhibition is also the Silesian Blues Trail — a narrative leading through places, events, and figures that shaped the musical identity of the region. It is a journey across decades, showing how blues was born in Silesia, who created it, and why it found such deep emotional roots here.

The exhibition does not just document history — it brings it to life. Thanks to projections, interactive screens, and sound installations, visitors can hear original recordings, see the faces of artists, learn their stories, and feel the atmosphere of places that often no longer exist but still live on in people’s memories and in the music.

This is a space that pays tribute to the creators of Silesian blues, while also serving as a place of discovery for those just beginning their musical journey. We aim to attract new audiences, to show them the taste of blues — its energy, authenticity, and emotional depth. The exhibition reminds us of a rich heritage, an extraordinary history, and the people who built this world out of passion, determination, and love for music. It is an emotional time machine that helps explain why blues in Silesia is more than just a genre — it is part of a local identity that continues to inspire, connect, and attract new generations.

KATO Blues FACES has become a place for meetings, dialogue, and inspiration. We host artists from across Poland and around the world, creating a space where music brings people together beyond divisions. Concerts, jam sessions, exhibitions, meetings, and special events have led to the place being called iconic.

Our work has been noticed and appreciated — we received the titles “Event of the Year 2024” and “Event of the Year 2025” awarded by the readers of the quarterly magazine Twój Blues. These distinctions show that blues in Katowice is alive, resonant, and attracting attention.

The energy of the people, artists, and guests who visit us constantly inspires and motivates us to keep going. Thanks to them, KATO Blues FACES has become a living space, pulsing with emotion and authenticity — an ambassador of Katowice as a UNESCO City of Music, open to culture, people, and real stories.

On our initiative, the Silesian Blues Walk of Fame was created on Staromiejska Street — the first space in Poland dedicated to honoring blues artists in the form of bronze plaques embedded in the urban landscape. It is a place that connects memory, music, and public space, creating a unique trail for residents and tourists.

The Walk of Fame has become a natural extension of KATO Blues FACES — a symbolic bridge between the history and the present of Silesian blues.

We illuminated Staromiejska Street with a light installation featuring a quote from the iconic song “Wehikuł czasu” by the band Dżem. This is our original artistic and urban project that combines cultural promotion, blues heritage, and the aesthetic enhancement of Katowice’s public space — a UNESCO City of Music.

The LED quote has become a symbol of local musical identity, a tribute to generations of Silesian artists, and a reminder that Katowice plays with real emotions.

The project partner is the City of Katowice, which supports the development of KATO Blues FACES as an important point on the city’s cultural map and a place that builds its musical identity.

KATO Blues FACES proves that culture does not have to be occasional — it can be everyday, close, and real. We are creating a place that is open, vibrant, and authentic — one that connects people, inspires, and builds community.
