Concert and Presentation of the Jan “Kyks” Skrzek Artistic Award 2026 in Katowice!
A special ceremony for the Jan “Kyks” Skrzek Artistic Award 2026 took place in Katowice — an honor awarded to individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the development of Silesian music culture and the preservation of the region’s blues heritage.
This year’s laureates were:
- Marcin Krupa – Mayor of Katowice
Honored for many years of consistent support for the Silesian music scene, cultural events, and venues that preserve the region’s blues heritage. - Jan Gałach
An outstanding violinist and band leader who has helped shape the modern sound of Silesian blues and rock for years, admired for his remarkable expression and musical charisma. - Grzegorz Kapołka
One of Poland’s most distinguished blues guitarists, composer, and educator, whose achievements and style have influenced the identity of the Silesian music scene for decades. - Michał Kielak
A leading Polish harmonica player performing both in Poland and abroad, known for his distinctive sound and major contribution to promoting blues music.
The laureates were introduced by editor Andrzej Matysik, while the awards were presented by Barbara Skrzek, emphasizing the continuity of tradition and the importance of this distinction within the music community.
The ceremony was accompanied by a special concert featuring outstanding artists connected with the region’s blues scene: the award winners Jan Gałach, Grzegorz Kapołka, Michał Kielak, as well as Agnieszka Łapka, Joanna Kaniewska, Krzysztof Głuch, Adam Kulisz, Mirek Rzepa, Maks Ziobro, Darek Ziółek, and Leszek Winder.
The evening was not only an opportunity to honor distinguished artists, but also a celebration of Silesian blues — music that has shaped the identity of Katowice and the entire region for decades.
